Scope and Content Note

This collection contains a report card, three letters, a photostat of his diploma from Washington College, and an image of the original college building. Two letters from President James Cain, from 1908, reference the 1856 report card for John T. Parker, its need for repair, and updating Parker's graduation information in the next course catalog. There is a 1913 letter and supplement from James A. Pearce, who attended at the same time as Parker, in his capacity as President of the Board of Visitors and Governors asking for alumni support. In the letter, he describes in depth the college.

Biographical Information Note

John Thomas Parker (1839-1917) was born on November 14 in Worcester County, Maryland to Col Charles Parker (1789-1858) and Amelia Selby Parker. He attended Washington College, graduating in 1856. Then he received his medical degree from New York University in 1861. During the Civil War, he served as an assistant surgeon in the 19th Battalion, Virginia Heavy Artillery. After the war, he married Bettie Hull (1842-1888) in 1872. After Bettieā€™s death, he married Maud Maria deWaal (1869-1923) in 1889 and had two daughters, Margaret and Mary. Aside from practicing medicine John also had a short term in politics serving as a member of the legislature for Worcester County from 1870-1871. John passed away on February 6, 1917, in Stockton, MD.
