Biographical Information Note

Marion deKalb Smith, Jr. (1879-1944) was born in Chestertown, Maryland on July 30 to Marion deKalb Smith (1850-1910) and Addie Burchinal Smith (1851-1924). After graduating from Washington College in 1898 he received a degree in Civil Engineering from Cornell University in 1901. He then began his career with the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. He worked with the railroad until 1924 when he returned to the family estate in Chestertown. He became an active member of the community, schools, and the Kent County Historical Society. He died January 20, 1944.
