This collection contains a list of sixty raffle participants, at 5 dollars a ticket, for a painting of George Washington by Jane Stuart based on one by her father, Gilbert Stuart. Proceeds were to benefit “the Club” possible the Newport Reading Room. The raffle was held in Newport, Rhode Island in August 1868.

This collection contains correspondence with Hopewell H. Barroll. Some request letters of recommendation for various positions with Washington College, one regards an honorary degree from Dickinson College for Thomas S. Hodson. Includes commencement materials for Yale and Washington College. There are also legal papers related to Barroll’s work as a lawyer.

Scope and Content Note This collection contains a signed typed reminiscence by Harry V. Holloway, class of 1895, recalling his time at Washington College. During this time the college admitted its first female student, May Matthews, Harry remembers her as a student of distinction and valued member of the dramatic troupe. He remembers the conditions of campus classrooms and dorms, members of faculty including lunch with President and Mrs. Reid, costs of his education, clubs and activities, the football team, and...

Scope and Content Note This collection contains the speech “American Citizenship” given by James M. Munroe of Annapolis at the Washington’ Birthday celebration at Washington College February 22, 1911. There is also a photocopy of the speech and the letter from President James W. Cain inviting Munroe to speak. Original of the letter is located in the President’s papers. While the speech briefly talks about immigration it focuses largely on political issues of the time including prohibition and the liquor vote and...

This collection contains two deeds and a survey for plots of land in Millington purchased by the Board of Education of Kent County. In 1915 initiatives were made to build larger modern schools in Millington, Betterton, Kennedyville, and Rock Hall.
