The Pieria Literary Society was formed April of 1894 by the women of the Normal School at Washington College. The Mount Vernon and Philomathean literary societies were only open to men at that time. The society was in existence until the 1910s when women were formally integrated into Washington College and, presumably, the societies became co-ed.
