Adam Goodheart book research on Col. Clarence Hodson
This collection contains research for Goodheart’s book The Hodson Century A Legacy of Leadership at Washington College. Much of the research was done in the Presidents of Washington College’s papers and the Board of Visitors & Governors’ papers.
Adelphia Literary Society records
This collection contains two minute books, membership certificates for Ernest A. Howard and Wilbur J. Stenger, and the constitution and bylaws.
Alan Eliason photograph collection
This collection contains negatives and photographs taken by Alan at various Washington College events and in his capacity as a portrait photographer. The negatives are suffering from vinegar syndrome, a type of degradation common to the plastics used at that time. The negatives have been scanned and are available in digital format.
Albert W. Dowling papers
This collection contains several letters from Albert Dowling to John M. Lord, a friend and Washington College graduate, class of 1935. He has also sent a forward “Voices: The Past Pleads” and numerous poems. Some of the poems note the publications they are in or the date and a few have handwritten notes.
Albury Hopkins Moore, class of 1930, negatives
This collection contains ninety-one negatives taken in 1926. A majority of the photographs are of Washington College including the campus, sporting events, fellow students, and events. There are also images of friends and family, a visit to the Ohio Canal National Historic Park, and some Chester River scenes.
Charles Colfax Long papers
This collection contains radio scripts and speeches by Long mostly on patriotic topics. Many of the speeches were to organizations like Sons of the Revolution. There is also research material on George Washington and publications from the George Washington Bicentennial Commission.
Charles Smith trigonometry and surveying notebook
This collection contains a notebook kept by Charles Smith started April 3, 1783 while a student at Washington College, Chestertown, MD. It is entitled “Plane Trigonometry and the application of it to the taking of Height and Distances: Also Surveying and the Division of Lands and also the Laying out of New Lands.” Included among the examples is a problem based on the Siege of York.
Chestertown Female Seminary advertisement
This collection contains an advertisement for the Chestertown Female Seminary run by Mrs. P. Trible. The ad includes the courses for instruction and the rates for the term. There are notes on the reverse and updates to the rates by Col. Joseph Wickes and his wife who most likely attended the open house in January 1858.
