Organizational History

Washington College Alumni Association was formed on June 27, 1888, in the law office of Hope H. Barroll, but its early years were marked with inactivity and little to no record keeping. In 1916 there was a reorganization with a new constitution and by-laws adopted. The Association began creating lists of alumni were created, held annual meetings, and even had a baseball game. The Alumni Association even created the Washington College Alumnus, a magazine-like newsletter that ran from 1931-1967. Chapters were created, the annual meetings continued, and today the organization is an integral part of Washington College’s community with events, reunions, and support for alumni and current students.

Maryland War Record Commission was formed in Baltimore around 1933. The Commission’s goal was to compile a complete list of Marylander’s service records. Volumes were published for those who served in the Army, Navy, and Marines during World War I, and again for those who served in World War II.
