Fooks family ration books
Scope and Contents Note
This collection contains several World War II ration books for members of the Fooks family in Annapolis. Also contains a card from Maryland Governor William Preston Lane, Jr., a ration book for Alice L. Makell, and an information booklet for a Matson Line cruise ship.

Biographical Information
Burleigh Clayton Fooks (1896-1945) was born in Salsbury, Mayland to Purnell Mitchell Fooks (1860-1909) of Snow Hill, Maryland. He graduated from St. John’s College in Annapolis in 1921. In 1930 he married Eleanor Burwell Hepburn (1903-1984). Eleanor was the daughter of Dr. Samuel Sewell Stavely Hepburn, Jr. and Annie McCaleb Hepburn of Kent County, MD. Eleanor was the cousin of actress Katharine Hepburn. The Fooks lived in Annapolis. Burleigh worked as the head of the Price Administration Board until his death of a heart attack in 1945. The couple had a daughter, Emily Jane Thurow (1939-1972).
