Organizational History
The Whitney House, now known as the Whitney Hotel, is located in Columbus, Wisconsin. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. H. A. Whitney built the first wooden building in 1845. After a fire in 1857, the current building was constructed. By 1858, a cream brick, Italianate-style hotel was completed. The third-floor ballroom was heated by six wood-burning stoves. The building began to decline in the 1950s and was almost demolished in 1991. It was placed on the Register and is now home to private apartments.
