This collection contains correspondence, including V-mail, between Edward Malan and his family and his fiancé Sophie Kramer. It also includes his military records, information on marrying during the war, photographs, and artifacts from his time during the war.

Biographical Information

Edward J. Malan (1916-1972) was born February 22nd in Baltimore Maryland to Joseph and Mary Malan. He attended one year of college before becoming a machinist. In December of 1941 enlisted in the United States Army, where his machinist skills were used in repairs and weapons inspections. He served as a Machinist General in the 358th Fighter Group and was deployed to the European Theater. During the war, he married Sophie Kramer, and they had two children including Louise Shearer. After the war, the Malans settled in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. Edward passed on July 16, 1972.
