Scope and Contents Note
The manuscript, proposed title Reflections from a Board, is a collection of stories from Wingate's time on various boards of various colleges and universities including Washington College. He submitted the manuscript in the hopes that the Washington College Press might publish it and distribute some copies to the 1930s alumni.

Biographical Information
Philip Jerome Wingate (1913-2000) was born January 13th in Wingate, Maryland to Cornelia A. McNamara Wingate (1874-1953) and Charles M Wingate (1863-1939). Phillip graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Washington College in 1933, he received his Master’s in 1939 and his Ph.D. in 1942 from the University of Maryland. After receiving his Ph.D. in Chemistry, he began his lifelong career with DuPont de Nemours & Co., retiring in 1972. During that time, he received two patents and became well-respected in his field of Chemistry. Wingate served on many Boards including the Board of Visitors & Governors of Washington College. He also wrote several books outside of Chemistry including Bandages of Illusions, Before the Bridge: Reminiscences, Beast of Business, and H. L. Mencken’s Un-Neglected Anniversary. In 1942 he married Katharine Smith. Phillip passed away on May 22, 2000, and is buried in Owl’s Nest, Delaware.
