Scope and Content Note
This collection contains photographs taken by Dr. Horsley in the Philippines during her time as a Fulbright Scholar from 1951-1952. As a sociologist she photographed the people, places, and events of the Negros Oriental region of the Philippines, including festivals, churches, death rituals and funerals, traditional weaving and fishing, cockfighting, and mahjong. Horsley also documented the Moro people in Mindanao, the destruction of Typhoon Amy, and other areas outside the Philippines including China, Japan, Hawaii, and Arizona. Some of the color slides include Dr. Horsley’s notes.
