Scope and Content Note

This collection contains radio scripts and speeches by Long mostly on patriotic topics. Many of the speeches were to organizations like Sons of the Revolution. There is also research material on George Washington and publications from the George Washington Bicentennial Commission.

Biographical Information Note

Charles Colfax Long (1867-1947) was born August 23 in Gallipolis, Ohio to William A. Long (1844-1916) and Mary Rathburn Long (1844-1933). Long moved to Washington D.C. where he lectured on numerous topics relating to the District of Columbia and other patriotic themes. He also wrote and performed numerous radio scripts including his "The Real George Washington" series. He served as president of his chapter of the Sons of the Revolution. Charles married Helen Caldwell (1872-1965). Long passed away December 31, 1947 in North Carolina.
