Biographical Information
George Emmett Wood (1863-1960) was born on July 24th in Ridgely, Maryland to John Wesley Wood (1821-1900) and Elizabeth Ireland Wood (1823-1896). He graduated from Washington College in 1885, he returned in 1938 to receive an Honorary Degree. After graduation, he entered the Methodist Episcopal ministry. He ministered along the Delmarva Peninsula until he retired in 1932. Wood also published poems and songs and wrote his memoirs “The Bard of Trad Avon.” George married Mahalia Ogburn in 1884 but the marriage did not last, and he married Alberta Wiley in 1896. Wood passed away on January 10, 1960, in Dover, Delaware.
