This collection contains two editions of The Echo, a student-created publication, dated about 1887 and February 28, 1902. Some editors of The Echo were: Clara Usilton; Palmer Carroll; Effie Crouch; J. Wilbur Hirons; William Wheatly; Charles Wheatly; and Walter Lusby Nicholson. There is also mention of Wheatly’s sister Josephine also contributing to the publication. The first part is a biography of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the second contains copies of various news items from the time. These publications were probably made while they were all students at Chestertown High School in the eighth grade. Walter Lusby Nicholson, Charles, and Josephine Wheatly graduated from Washington College. William Wheatly attended Washington College for two years and J. Wilbur Hirons graduated from Wilmington Business School and Georgetown Law School.
