Alan Eliason photograph collection
Scope and Contents Note
This collection contains negatives and photographs taken by Alan at various Washington College events and in his capacity as a portrait photographer. The negatives are suffering from vinegar syndrome, a type of degradation common to the plastics used at that time. The negatives have been scanned and are available in digital format.

Biographical Information
Alan Eliason (1921-2013) was born on March 30th in Chestertown, Maryland to Thomas Wilson Eliason (1888-1974) and Marguerite Miller Cree Eliason (1889-1958). The Eliason family had deep roots in Kent County having been there since the early 1800s. The family owned farms and had established businesses including a bank, a hardware store, and a car dealership. Alan became a professional photographer and opened a portrait studio in Chestertown it was while working as a photographer that he met Elizabeth “Libby” Dorsey, his future wife, while she was at Washington College. In 1945 he and Libby moved to Bartlett, New Hampshire, and entered the hospitality industry opening the Sky Valley Motel Court. They had four children including Susan Walker Eliason and Dave Eliason. Alan returned to Chestertown and passed away on August 8, 2013.
