Scope and Contents Note From the Collection: This collection contains two editions of The Echo, a student-created publication, dated about 1887 and February 28, 1902. Some editors of The Echo were: Clara Usilton; Palmer Carroll; Effie Crouch; J. Wilbur Hirons; William Wheatly; Charles Wheatly; and Walter Lusby Nicholson. There is also mention of Wheatly’s sister Josephine also contributing to the publication. This collection contains several documents belonging to the Scott family of Chestertown, Maryland, including two 18th-century diplomas from Washington College. Also included is a document from George Washington appointing John Scott IV the customs collector for the port of Chestertown and a letter, dated November 12, 1788, by John Scott IV regarding permits and other financial matters.
